研究の長期目標は、医師が正しく診断する際の画像認識のスキルを、データや症例から学習する人工知能技術を開発し、理解することです。
目標を達成するためには、最先端の機械学習、画像解析技術の開発とその理論による裏付け、医師が行う意思決定プロセスや人間の視覚システムを理解することが不可欠であると信じています。
研究領域は医用画像における機械・データ学習、医用画像における病変のコンピューター支援検出・診断、医用画像処理・解析、特に画像ベースの機械学習や深層学習など、画像処理やパターン認識のための人間の視覚システムに着想を得た機械学習とそのバイオメディカルへの応用などです。業績(詳細は業績のページをご覧ください)
コンピューター支援診断、医用画像解析、機械学習、神経回路網、コンピュータービジョン、画像処理、パターン認識といった分野で約400の論文(125の査読付き雑誌論文を含む)を発表してきました。40(15の登録特許を含む)の特許を出願しています。Google Scholarでは論文は14000回以上引用され、h-indexが61、コンピューター支援診断分野で頻繁に引用された研究者の一人とされています。 Google Scholar.
